Wags-n-Tails is a small and very personal “hands-on” family operated boarding kennel located in Middle Island, New York on Eastern Long Island (just north of of the LIE/495). We are a full service pet care facility in a quite country setting where your pet will have an enjoyable stay filled with play and plenty of attention while you are away.
You want a place where dogs have sufficient social interaction, stimulation and exercise to keep those tails wagging happily. Their safety is assured by complete double fencing and 24 hour live-in caretakers.
Our dog guests lodging at Wags-n-Tails enjoy private indoor & outdoor spaces complete with soft cozy bedding, nutritious meals, fresh water, daily housekeeping and sanitation services. Ample space gives even that most energetic canine plenty of room to stretch their legs.
All guests must be in good health and up to date on their vaccinations. Pets are checked for fleas and ticks and will be bathed at owner’s expense if there are any signs of them. The required vaccinations are:
Rabies 1,2 or 3yr, DHLP 1,2 or 3yr, Bordetella (Kennel Cough) Every 6 months, Canine Influenza (is recommended but not required).
If your dog requires an update to his shots please do so at least 7-10 days ahead of your scheduled arrival at the kennel if possible.
Our feeding schedule is twice daily, however we can accommodate feeding more often if requested. The standard diets at
Wags-n-Tails are an assortment of the premium Purina products. We understand with the large number of pet feed manufacturers today your pet may be on a different diet.
We do not recommend a change of diet at the same time as a stay away from your home. Abrupt changes in diet can cause intestinal disruption which we wish to avoid, but some dogs have “cast iron” stomachs and they do well on any brand.
BUT, in order to avoid any issues we do highly recommend that you avoid any problems by bringing you regular diet for all boarding stays. Please, pre-bag and mark each bag with your pet’s name and your last name. We do have refrigeration for any wet diets.
Bowls are not necessary as we use stainless steel bowls and dishes. There is no additional charge to feed your own food or special diets.
All medical needs or medications must be disclosed to our staff in advance so that we can provide the best care for your pet. Dogs must be in stable health and have the mobility to move around.
FLEAS AND TICKS
We check all pets for fleas and ticks. Any pet arriving with a parasite infestation will be treated at time of admission which will be charged to your invoice.
We encourage you to bring items from home such as toys, treats, beds or blankets. Familiar items and things with familiar scents from home often makes it easier for your pet to settle in with us. Safe toys, treats and chew bones are fine to bring along.
We ask that you label all your items with your last name and pet’s name. We will take every care with your pet’s items but cannot guarantee return of the items that are lost or chewed.
Each pet guest has their own individual outdoor – indoor enclosure with a sleeping area on the inside and their outside patio area which they access through a doggie door. The inside area is 16 square feet or 20 square feet while the outside areas are either 4 x16 feet or 5 x 16 feet.
All of the runs are covered with a roof to provide protection from rain, with shade in the summer and a cover from snow in the winter.

Most pets adjust fairly easily to the kennel environment, routine and seeing the other guests and do extremely well with individual attention and playtime.
There are some who with extra TLC (lots of hugs and kisses and petting) and playtime adjust very nicely. Most importantly all of our guests are treated as special and we strive to make sure each is a happy camper comfortable in their runs, eating and eliminating normally.
We do not allow other guests to bully or intimidate our guests. All of our runs are cleaned thoroughly twice a day, morning and evening and during the day as need be.
Are the painters coming, is the carpets being replaced, or you just want a day away just for yourself and don’t want to leave your pet at home alone?
Wags-n-Tails day care provides an outlet to expend excess energy, socialize, and remain a healthy active pet. At day care there is never a dull moment and our schedule is packed with fun and activities for your pet. We can day board to meet your needs – call us for pricing for just a few hours or for the entire day.
Our team of caregivers attends to the needs of all our guests throughout the entire day. Consider sending “Rover” Over For The Day!
